Key takeaways
- Adobe isn't one app. It's a public software company's entire product range: Creative Cloud desktop apps like Photoshop, Illustrator and Premiere Pro, Acrobat for PDFs and e-signatures, Express for quick browser design, Firefly for generative AI, Adobe Stock, and Experience Cloud for enterprise marketing. FY2025 revenue was $23.769 billion, 96% of it subscriptions, per Adobe's own filings.
- The center of gravity is shifting toward AI. Firefly now generates images, video and audio, and since 2026 it exposes third-party models from Google, OpenAI, Kling AI and others alongside Adobe's own, while Photoshop's Generative Fill and Generative Expand and Acrobat's AI Assistant put the same engines inside the flagship apps.
- Adobe restructured pricing in February 2026. The old All Apps plan became Creative Cloud Pro at $69.99 a month, joined by a new Creative Cloud Standard at $54.99, both annual contracts billed monthly. Express Free and Firefly Free are genuinely free, but cancelling an annual plan after the first 14 days can cost 50% of the remaining commitment.
- Traffic estimates put adobe.com around 356 million visits in June 2026, a third-party figure we could not verify. The split reputation is verifiable: 4.6/5 from 36,448 G2 reviews for Creative Cloud against 1.2/5 from 6,943 Trustpilot reviews dominated by billing complaints.
- The biggest caveat is the subscription machinery itself. The US DOJ alleged Adobe hid early-termination fees and made cancelling convoluted, and in March 2026 Adobe agreed to a proposed $150 million settlement, $75 million in civil penalties and $75 million in free services, plus clearer disclosures.
What is Adobe?
Adobe is the company behind Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, Acrobat, Express and Firefly, sold mostly as subscriptions under the Creative Cloud umbrella. Founded in 1982 and public since 1986, it spans professional desktop creative software, browser and mobile creation, PDF and e-signature work, stock assets, generative AI, and the Experience Cloud line of marketing, analytics and commerce products for enterprises. Its homepage pitch as of August 2026 is "Get work done. Faster."
What makes it distinct is breadth plus interconnection. A designer can move a file from Photoshop to Illustrator to InDesign, pull licensed assets from Adobe Stock, generate fills with Firefly credits, and route the finished PDF through Acrobat Sign, all inside one account. Reviewers treat Creative Cloud as the industry-standard suite for exactly this reason, and agencies and large organizations lean on its file formats, administration and support continuity.
Around the core apps sits a widening AI layer. Firefly is Adobe's generative family for images, video and audio, and the current Firefly app can run Adobe's own models or third-party ones including Google Imagen and Veo, OpenAI GPT and Flux. Adobe positions Firefly as trained on permitted and licensed content and says it does not train on customer content. Everything generative runs on credits, and the allowances vary sharply by plan.
How it works
Pick a product and a plan
You enter through adobe.com and pick Creative Cloud, Photoshop, Acrobat, Express or Firefly. Express Free and Firefly Free start without payment details. Paid app trials need an account and billing information, and they convert to paid subscriptions unless you cancel.
Choose your working surface
Express, Firefly and Acrobat web tools run in the browser. Creative Cloud subscribers install desktop apps through the Creative Cloud desktop app on Windows or macOS, and selected products also run on iOS and Android.
Import or prompt
You upload a photo or PDF, pick a template, edit on a canvas, or describe an image, video or audio clip in a Firefly prompt. Inside Photoshop, Text to Image, Generative Fill and Generative Expand handle prompt-driven edits without leaving the layered workflow.
Refine, export or deliver
You adjust layers, text, brand assets, PDF fields or AI results, then download, publish to social channels through Express, save to Creative Cloud storage, or send documents for signature. Export formats and resolution depend on the product and plan.
Features
Photoshop Generative Fill
Inserts or replaces visual elements from a text prompt without leaving Photoshop's ordinary editing workflow. Generated content lands in a layered, adjustable file, not a flat output.
Generative Expand
Extends an image beyond its original canvas and fills the added area with generated content. Useful when a crop is too tight for the format you need.
Firefly image, video and audio generation
Adobe's generative family creates and edits multiple media types. The current Firefly app offers Adobe's own models plus selected partner models, so one interface can route a job to different engines.
Adobe Express
Combines templates, quick editing, social posts, videos, flyers and post scheduling in a browser-oriented tool. The free plan lists 100,000+ templates, 4,000+ Adobe Fonts and over a million royalty-free Adobe Stock assets.
Acrobat AI Assistant
Helps you understand documents. It sits alongside Acrobat's PDF editing, conversion, sharing and signature tools.
Acrobat Sign e-signatures
Requests signatures and tracks progress in real time. This covers the document side of client and business workflows.
Creative Cloud apps, storage and developer platform
The subscription bundles 20+ desktop apps with cloud storage, and the Creative Cloud Developer Platform adds APIs, SDKs, plugins and scripts for extending Adobe apps and automating workflows.
What people use it for
- Creating and retouching photographs, illustrations, composites and marketing images
- Generating images, video, audio and design concepts from prompts
- Producing social posts, short videos, flyers, presentations and branded content
- Editing, converting, sharing, reviewing and e-signing PDFs
- Building video edits, motion graphics, audio and campaign assets
- Automating creative workflows or connecting Adobe files and data to other software
- Running enterprise marketing, analytics, commerce and customer-experience programs
Adobe is not a good choice if you want one inexpensive, simple editor. Its breadth, desktop resource demands, subscription complexity and product-specific learning curves are the drawbacks users cite most often.

Adobe's pricing depends on region, tax, product and promotion, and the company restructured its plans in February 2026. Creative Cloud Standard is $54.99 a month and Creative Cloud Pro, formerly All Apps, is $69.99 a month, both as annual contracts billed monthly. Standard includes 25 generative credits a month against Pro's 4,000 premium credits, so the AI allowance is a bigger gap than the app list. Credits are consumption units whose burn rate depends on the feature and model, and Adobe sells add-on packs at $9.99 for 2,000 up to $199.99 for 50,000 a month; universal rollover and expiry rules were not confirmed. The written cancellation terms matter. Creative Cloud Pro's 7-day trial converts to a paid plan unless you cancel, with a 14-day post-trial full-refund window. Most initial purchases cancelled within 14 days get a full refund, but after that an annual plan billed monthly can carry a fee of 50% of the remaining contractual commitment, the practice at the heart of the DOJ case Adobe agreed to settle in March 2026. Several prices, including Firefly Standard, Express Premium and the Acrobat tiers, only surfaced on regional pages during our last check, so confirm US figures on Adobe's pricing page before you commit.
Traffic & reach
These are third-party estimates from our last check, a proxy for reach rather than an official number, and we could not independently verify them. The scale is what you would expect of a company whose products are daily infrastructure for creative work: hundreds of millions of visits a month, the United States as the largest single audience, and most arrivals coming direct or through organic search rather than ads.

What professionals rate it for. Review analysis describes Creative Cloud as an industry-standard suite with unusually broad functionality and deep connections between its apps, and users value moving between Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere, Acrobat and Stock instead of stitching together unrelated tools. G2's Creative Cloud listing showed 4.6/5 from 36,448 reviews when we checked in August 2026. Ratings are product-specific, so don't read that score as an Adobe-wide grade; Experience Cloud sat at 4.1/5 from 5,924 reviews on the same comparison page.
The billing complaints are a pattern. Trustpilot showed a 1.2/5 score from 6,943 reviews as of April 2026, with recurring complaints about unexpected charges, forced subscriptions and paying for unused months. Techreviewer's July 2026 analysis calls cost-effectiveness a persistent weakness, singling out subscription pricing and cancellation fees. Trustpilot is self-selected evidence, not a representative survey, but the theme is consistent across sources.
The DOJ settlement. In June 2024 the DOJ and FTC sued Adobe, alleging it obscured early-termination fees and made cancellation difficult. Then in March 2026 the DOJ announced a proposed $150 million resolution, $75 million in civil penalties and $75 million in free services, plus clearer fee disclosures and easier cancellation. The sources describe allegations and a proposed stipulated order, not fully adjudicated findings, and Adobe's current help pages do document a direct cancellation route.
The AI training dispute. Adobe says it has never trained Firefly on customer content and trains on permitted content, including licensed Adobe Stock material. PetaPixel reported in March 2026 that Diversity Photos founder Gerald Carter alleged Adobe used roughly 12,000 images without a separate licence or opt-out; the report says Adobe prevailed on most claims in arbitration and summary judgment, while later proceedings remained contested. Keep Adobe's policy and the allegations distinct when you weigh this.
The plans keep changing. Adobe renamed and restructured Creative Cloud in February 2026 and expanded Firefly's third-party model roster the same year. Plan renames, separate product subscriptions, credit systems, storage limits and region-specific offers make the buying decision genuinely confusing, and reviewers report resource-heavy apps and occasional bugs introduced by updates.
The growth numbers are Adobe's own filings. FY2025 revenue of $23.769 billion, up from $21.505 billion in FY2024, and the 31,360 headcount come from Adobe's 10-K, company filings rather than third-party estimates. The 28 G2 Best Software Awards across 15 categories in 2026 is likewise a company-reported recognition.
