Key takeaways

  • Artlist started in 2016 as a subscription music library for filmmakers and has rebuilt itself around a browser workspace that generates images, video, music, voiceovers, avatars, lip sync and dubbing. It runs other companies' models behind one interface: the company says more than 100, but publishes no stable list, and the free-account help page names only Nano Banana 2 Lite, Kling 1.6 and Seedance 2.0 Mini.
  • The customer has changed along with the product. Footage arrived in 2019, sound effects in 2020 and AI voiceover in 2023, and the company now sells "end-to-end AI production for creators, teams and studios" rather than per-track licensing. In June 2026 Calcalist reported a planned cut of 200 jobs, about 40% of staff, even as revenue reportedly grew.
  • As of August 2026 the AI plans are AI Starter from $19.99 a month with 16,500 credits, AI Creator from $69.99 with 80,000, and AI Professional from $399.99 with 500,000 and up to three seats. Credits reset monthly and do not roll over, "Unlimited" covers selected models only, and a refund is available for 14 days only if nothing has been downloaded, generated, used or exported.
  • Third-party estimates put artlist.io at about 11.5 million visits in June 2026, down from 13.6 million in April, with 44% arriving direct and 29% from paid search. The estimate covers the whole Artlist site, stock catalog included, and has not been independently confirmed.
  • The biggest caveat is billing and support. Trustpilot excerpts allege missing monthly credits, unanswered tickets and cancellations that did not stick, and in August 2026 CineD reported an "Unlimited Seedance" promotion that delivered roughly a week of the expected access, with refunds made opt-in. Artlist's written policy is a 14-day conditional refund window.

What is Artlist?

Artlist AI is the generative side of Artlist, the Israeli stock-media company that sells licensed music, sound effects and footage on subscription. The AI product lives at artlist.io/ai under the tagline "Generative AI Tools for Content Creators" and bundles seven tools into one browser workspace: an image generator, a video generator, voiceover with cloning, a music generator, talking avatars, lip sync and dubbing. Artlist Studio sits on top for storyboards, moodboards and project organisation. Everything draws on a single monthly credit balance.

The distinction isn't a model of its own. Artlist doesn't disclose a proprietary foundation model; the workspace aggregates third-party engines and lets you pick one per job. The company says you get access to more than 100 models, though no complete roster is published and the names it does confirm on the free-account page are Nano Banana 2 Lite for images and Kling 1.6 or Seedance 2.0 Mini for video. The other distinction is licensing. Artlist's pitch to editors and agencies is that AI generations and catalog assets come under one commercial licence, and the Max plans combine the stock library with the AI credits.

Around the AI toolkit sits a large business. Calcalist reported 2025 annual recurring revenue of $260 million in January 2026, and a June 2026 report described ARR above $300 million alongside a planned reduction of about 40% of the workforce. The company appears to remain privately held and founder-led, with co-founders Itzik Elbaz and Ira Belsky serving as co-CEOs as of August 2026.

How it works

  1. Choose a tool and a model

Open the workspace and pick the job: image, video, voiceover, music, avatar, lip sync or dubbing. Each tool offers a menu of third-party models, and the model you choose sets the credit price of the generation. Some models carry an information icon, which means the provider may train on inputs and outputs. Check that marker before you upload client material.

  2. Prompt or upload

Give the model a text prompt, a reference image or an audio file, depending on the tool. Image-to-video, speech-to-speech, voice cloning and image-to-music all start from an upload rather than a blank prompt. Avatars take an image plus an audio track; dubbing and lip sync take a finished video.

  3. Generate and refine

Generation deducts credits according to the model and settings. The exception is a supported "Unlimited" model on a Creator, Professional or Max plan, which doesn't deduct credits but is subject to daily thresholds and parallel-generation limits. Variations, edits and re-runs happen inside the workspace, and Artlist Studio holds the storyboards and moodboards for a larger production.

  4. Download under the licence

Export the result. Artlist says AI outputs are yours to use, adapt and commercialise, including after your subscription ends, subject to its terms and to third-party rights such as likenesses and trademarks. Outputs built on catalog assets stay under the Asset License instead. A free account covers a handful of generations; larger quotas and stock access require a paid plan.

Features

AI Image Generator

Text-to-image and reference-image generation and editing. The free account runs on Nano Banana 2 Lite; paid plans open the wider model menu. This is where storyboards, moodboards and static ad frames start.

AI Video Generator

Text-to-video and image-to-video across a menu of third-party models. Kling 1.6 and Seedance 2.0 Mini are the models confirmed for free accounts; the paid menu is broader but undocumented on the public pages. Seedance is also the model behind the August 2026 "Unlimited" promotion that drew complaints, so check current Unlimited eligibility before you plan a batch job around it.

AI Voiceover

Text-to-speech, speech-to-speech and voice cloning across languages. This is the oldest AI tool in the suite, launched in 2023, and it's also the only thing the entry-level 7,500-credit option covers. Image, video and music access starts at the 16,500-credit tier.

AI Music Generator

Prompt-based original music plus an image-to-music workflow that scores a visual. It sits alongside, not instead of, Artlist's licensed music catalog, which the Max plans include and the AI-only plans do not.

AI Avatars and Lip Sync

Avatars turn a still image and an audio track into a talking presenter video. Lip Sync re-times mouth movements to replacement dialogue on existing footage. Together they cover presenter-led explainers without a shoot.

AI Dubbing

Localises a finished video with translated speech and synchronised lips. Combined with voice cloning, it is the localisation workflow the company markets to agencies and studios.

Artlist Studio and Unlimited generations

Studio is the production layer: storyboards, moodboards and project organisation, with its own 2,000-credit allowance on free accounts. Unlimited generations, included from AI Creator upward, let you keep generating on selected models after credits run out, within reasonable-use and daily limits. Which models qualify isn't fixed and changes over time.

What people use it for

  • Social ads, branded visuals and campaign assets built from a prompt or a product still
  • Storyboards and moodboards assembled in Artlist Studio before a shoot
  • Voiceovers for podcasts, training modules and marketing video, including a cloned house voice
  • Original music beds for video productions without per-track licensing
  • Dubbing and lip-synced localisation of finished video into other languages
  • Avatar-led explainers and presenter content without booking a studio

It won't replace guaranteed human production, fine-grained control of a specific model, or a documented public API workflow, and the models and limits on offer change without a published catalog.

Everything is metered in credits shared across the image, video, music, voiceover, avatar, lip-sync and dubbing tools, with the deduction set by the model and settings you choose. Credits and fast generations renew on your billing date. Unused balances expire rather than roll over. As of August 2026 the pricing page lists AI Starter from $19.99 a month, or $11.99 a month on annual billing, with 16,500 credits; a cheaper 7,500-credit entry option exists but is voiceover-only. AI Creator is from $69.99 a month ($41.67 annually) with 80,000 credits, and AI Professional from $399.99 ($239.99 annually) with 500,000 credits and up to three members. Larger credit quantities run up to 4 million credits on Creator, Professional and Pro Plus at prices that vary by quantity. The Max plans add the stock catalog with 7,500 to 120,000 credits, Max Business adds commercial licensing and business features at an unpublished price, and Enterprise is contact sales. "Unlimited", included from Creator upward, does not spend credits but applies only to supported models and is capped by reasonable-use and daily thresholds. The free account has no time limit and no card on file, does not auto-convert, and gives you three voiceovers, two images, one video, two music tracks and 2,000 Studio credits. Artlist limits refunds to 14 days from purchase or renewal, and only if nothing has been downloaded, generated, used or exported. Cancelling stops the next renewal while access runs to the end of the period. You can buy extra credits, but the current top-up price isn't published in the material we could confirm.

Traffic & reach

Third-party estimates cover the whole artlist.io domain, stock catalog as well as AI workspace, so read them as a ceiling on AI-tool adoption rather than a count of it. The shape is unusual for a creative tool. Around 44% of visits arrive direct, which fits a subscription people already pay for, but a further 29% come from paid search, and that is a large advertising footprint for a product that also claims more than 30 million creators and brands. Visits fell month on month from April to June 2026. None of these figures has been independently confirmed, and the estimate the scrape carried was captured in August 2026.

What to know before you commit

  • What people rate it for. Review summaries describe Artlist as good value for high-volume creators because one subscription covers music, sound effects, footage and now AI generation under a single commercial licence. Users and the company both point to the breadth of the catalog and the convenience of not juggling separate services for stock and generation.

  • The billing and support complaints are a pattern. Trustpilot excerpts from September 2025 report difficulty reaching support, delayed replies, monthly credits that did not arrive, and users who say they could not cancel or download paid content. Other review summaries cite confusing annual-billing presentation, auto-renewal friction, copyright claims landing despite the licence, thin niche-genre selection and no stem downloads. These are individual allegations rather than adjudicated findings, but they recur, and Artlist's written policy of a 14-day conditional refund gives little room once you've generated anything.

  • The August 2026 Seedance promotion. CineD reported severe customer dissatisfaction after an "Unlimited Seedance" promotion delivered only about a week of the expected access. According to the report, refunds were opt-in rather than automatic and customer accounts of how they were handled were mixed. No regulator has looked at this; it is a press report. Still, it's the most recent test of how the company handles a promotion that under-delivers.

  • A July 2026 web-compromise report. Threat-intelligence researchers said Artlist blog pages were affected by a ClickFix-style fake CAPTCHA injection that could prompt Windows users to paste a PowerShell command. The reports came from independent researchers; there was no confirmed exploitation and no official vendor advisory in the material we could find, and whether the main site was affected remains unconfirmed. Watch for a postmortem.

  • The growth numbers are reported, not audited. Calcalist reported $260 million ARR for 2025 with 50% year-over-year growth, and a June 2026 report put ARR above $300 million alongside a planned 200-job reduction. The homepage claims of 30 million creators and brands, and of customers including Google, Amazon, Microsoft and Versace are the company's own. None of it is audited disclosure, and the ARR figures from the two reports are not reconciled with each other.

Leadership
Artlist was founded in 2016 in Israel by Itzik Elbaz, Ira Belsky and Assaf Ayalon, filmmakers and musicians who built a subscription music library in response to expensive per-clip licensing, according to company profiles. Elbaz and Belsky are co-founders and co-CEOs as of August 2026, and Erez Simha was reported as CFO in January 2026.
Funding
KKR led a $48 million minority growth investment in September 2020, with Elephant Partners named in secondary records; no valuation was reported. Total funding is listed at roughly $48 to 49 million depending on the database. No acquisition or public listing has been confirmed, and the company appears privately held and founder-led.
Scale
Calcalist reported 2025 ARR of $260 million with 50% growth, and a June 2026 report described ARR above $300 million; both are press-reported, not audited, and not reconciled. Headcount is uncertain: an entity record lists 552 staff, while the June 2026 report described a planned cut of 200 jobs, about 40% of the workforce. The homepage's 30 million creators and brands figure is the company's own claim.
