Key takeaways

  • Gamma turns a prompt, a block of pasted text or an imported file into a deck, a document, a responsive website or a social post, laid out as editable cards in the browser. Reviewers rate the speed and the first draft; the aggregate scores split hard by platform. A Memeburn synthesis in August 2026 reported Product Hunt at 4.8/5, G2 at 3.9/5 and Trustpilot at 1.7/5, all secondary readings that need rechecking on the platforms themselves.
  • It's no longer only a deck tool. Documents, gamma.site web publishing, custom domains, social posts and Gamma Imagine image generation, launched March 17, 2026, sit alongside presentations, and the plan ladder now runs up through Team and Business with SSO, shared folders, admin controls and SOC 2 documentation on request. Founders and consultants are still the core audience; the roadmap is pointed at workspaces.
  • Pricing is credits, and the mechanics matter more than the sticker. Free starts with 400 credits that never refresh. Paid credits arrive monthly, even on annual plans, and roll over only to twice the plan allowance. Top-ups cost $6 for 1,500 credits and are sold only to paid single-user workspaces. Since December 1, 2025 a refund requires a request within three days of subscribing and a credit balance still under the plan threshold.
  • Third-party estimates put gamma.app at about 24.4 million visits in June 2026, down 20.6% on May and off a November 2025 peak near 35.4 million. Half the traffic arrives direct, with about 4.0 million brand searches a month. The number was not independently confirmed, so read it as an estimate, not a count.
  • The biggest caveat is what happens after the first draft. Export to PowerPoint, Google Slides, PDF and Word is advertised, and reviewers report it as a recurring failure point along with limited layout control and native charts that lag PowerPoint. Billing and support are the other pattern. Techreviewer summaries describe refund failures, unexplained deactivations and continued billing, all of them customer allegations, not verified findings.

What is Gamma?

Gamma is the web product from Gamma Tech, Inc. at gamma.app. The homepage calls it "your AI design partner" and says it makes presentations, websites, social media and more "at the speed of thought." In practice it takes a topic, an outline, pasted copy or an uploaded file and returns structured content: a deck, a memo, a proposal, a marketing site or a set of social graphics, built out of cards you can edit by hand or with an AI assistant. It runs in a browser, with an iPhone app listed on the App Store as of August 2026. Not open source.

What separates it from slideware is the card, not the slide. Content sits in vertically stacked blocks that reflow, not in fixed slide frames, which is why the same gamma can publish as a shareable link, a gamma.site page or a custom-domain website as easily as it exports to a file. Embeds are part of that: videos, GIFs, charts, tables, forms, websites and live content drop into a card, so what you send is closer to a page than a slide file. Analytics come with the link, so you can see what a recipient actually read.

Around it, a crowded field splits three ways. Prezi, Pitch, Beautiful.ai and Presentations.ai compete on generated or auto-laid-out decks. PowerPoint and Google Slides remain the compatibility-first incumbents with mature charts, animations and editable native files. Canva overlaps from the design-suite side, and Gamma Imagine pushed that overlap further in March 2026. Plus AI is different again, generating inside PowerPoint and Google Slides for teams where a native editable file is mandatory.

How it works

  1. Start in the dashboard

Sign in through a browser and pick what you're making: a presentation, a document, a webpage or a social post. Free users can start without paying. The account is the unit of billing and of credit balance, and paid workspaces are where team controls and API access live.

  2. Generate, paste or import

Three entry points. Generate takes a topic or a prompt. Paste takes copy you already wrote and formats it. Import converts files, existing decks or web pages into Gamma's card structure. Free generation is capped at 10 slides per prompt and 50,000 input tokens for the initial generation; Plus raises that to 100 slides and 100,000 tokens.

  3. Choose a theme and let it draft

Gamma proposes an outline, writes the content, picks layouts and pulls images, then produces cards. Image quality is tiered by plan: Free gets basic image models, Plus advanced ones, Pro premium ones, and Ultra what Gamma describes as its most advanced text, image and video models. The vendor doesn't name the model providers or versions.

  4. Edit, remix, then publish

Rewrite text, restructure cards, swap the theme, drop in embeds, or ask the AI assistant to redo a section. Remix takes an existing gamma as the starting point for a new one. From there, share a live link with view, comment or edit permissions, publish to a gamma.site subdomain or a custom domain, check the analytics, or export to PDF, PowerPoint, Google Slides or Word depending on the format and plan.

Features

Generate, Paste and Import

The three creation paths, and the reason the tool fits into existing work instead of replacing it. Generate builds from a topic. Paste formats copy you already have. Import ingests files, decks and web pages and rebuilds them as cards, which is the path most people use when they arrive with a document, not an idea.

AI assistant

Section-level editing, not whole-document regeneration. You can point the assistant at one card and rewrite or restyle it while leaving everything else alone, and manual editing stays available throughout in both decks and documents.

Remix

Takes an existing gamma as the source for a new one, so a pitch deck becomes a one-page site or a client report becomes an internal memo without starting over. It earns its place once you have a library to draw on, not a single file.

Gamma Imagine

Launched March 17, 2026 as a separate image-generation product for brand-specific assets, social graphics, infographics, charts and visualizations. It moves Gamma into territory Canva already occupies, and reviewers report image generation as glitchy at times.

Embeds

Videos, GIFs, charts, tables, websites, forms and live content sit inside cards, so a shared gamma can carry a working form or a live dashboard rather than a screenshot of one. It makes the link version meaningfully different from the exported file.

Web publishing, themes and branding

Sites publish free to a gamma.site subdomain or to a connected custom domain, with Pro listing 10 custom domains and Ultra 100. You pick themes per gamma; Pro adds custom branding and fonts, and Team supports a shared company theme. The "Made with Gamma" badge stays on free output and is removed from Plus upward.

Gamma Generate API

Version 1.0 reached general availability on November 5, 2025, with the older v0.2 scheduled to sunset January 16, 2026. It generates presentations, documents, webpages and social posts over REST, authenticates with OAuth 2.0 or API keys, and it's included from Pro upward with no separate price retrieved. Gamma names Zapier, Make, Workato and n8n as automation routes.

Analytics and sharing controls

Live links carry view and engagement analytics, and permissions run from read-only through comment to edit, with workspace-level controls above that. Team and Business add centralized billing, shared folders, admin controls and advanced data controls.

What people use it for

  • Investor, sales and product pitch decks built from a prompt or imported notes.
  • Company all-hands and internal strategy presentations.
  • Client proposals, reports and memos as documents, not slides.
  • Responsive marketing and event websites on gamma.site or a custom domain.
  • Social graphics, infographics and marketing assets through Gamma Imagine.
  • Interactive content that carries video, forms, charts and live embeds inside the page.
  • Bulk or scheduled generation driven through the API, Zapier, Make or n8n.
  • Repurposing an existing deck into a site, a memo or a social set with Remix.

It doesn't replace PowerPoint or Google Slides when you need pixel-level layout control, mature native charts or a flawless editable export, and reviewers report export and customization limits repeatedly (Memeburn and Techreviewer, 2026).

Who it’s for

Founders and CEOs building pitch and board materialProduct managers packaging launches and roadmapsStrategy consultants and agency principals producing client decksMarketers and sales teams making proposals, one-pagers and campaign sitesEducators and studentsDevelopers and operations teams automating content generation through the APIBusinesses that need shared branding, SSO and locked training exclusion

Everything is metered in credits, spent per AI action, at a rate that varies by action and model. Free is permanent, not a trial. It starts with 400 credits that never refresh, adds 200 per referral, caps generation at 10 slides per prompt and 50,000 input tokens, keeps the "Made with Gamma" badge on output, and cannot buy top-ups. Paid plans refill monthly and roll over to at most twice the plan allowance. Plus gives 1,000 credits a month with 100 slides per prompt, advanced image models and no badge, rolling over to 2,000. Pro moves that to 4,000 a month with premium image models, custom branding and fonts, detailed analytics, up to 10 custom domains and API access, rolling over to 8,000. Ultra runs 20,000 a month with the most advanced text, image and video models, up to 100 custom domains and early feature access, rolling over to 40,000. Team adds Pro plus centralized billing, a custom company theme, shared folders, admin controls and advanced data controls at 6,000 monthly credits per member. Business adds SSO, SOC 2 documentation on request and advanced data controls; Gamma's plan comparison lists 10,000 monthly credits for it while the credit-purchase article gives a 20,000 rollover ceiling, and that inconsistency is unresolved. Four things to know before you subscribe. On annual plans credits issue monthly instead of all at once, so an unused month is capped by the rollover limit, not banked. Top-ups cost $6 for 1,500 credits, are sold in 1,500-credit increments, are available only to paid single-user workspaces, and only while you sit below the rollover ceiling. From December 1, 2025, refunds are full but narrow: request within three days of subscribing and stay under the plan's usage threshold, which is 200 credits on Plus, 600 on Pro, 900 on Team, 1,000 on Business and 2,000 on Ultra. And cancellation happens in Settings then Billing, with Gamma asking for at least 30 days' notice before renewal. The account keeps access to the end of the term and then drops to Free without deleting content, and cancelling on its own refunds nothing. Plan structure captured in August 2026. The dollar amounts for Plus, Pro, Ultra, Team and Business were not exposed by that capture, so read the live selector at gamma.app/pricing before budgeting.

Traffic & reach

The figures below are third-party estimates of visits to gamma.app, a proxy for adoption, not anything Gamma publishes, and the June 2026 reading was not independently confirmed. They put the site at about 24.4 million visits that month, down 20.6% on May's 30.7 million and off a November 2025 peak near 35.4 million, after a spring recovery that ran from 25.3 million in January to 33.1 million in April. The mix says more than the total. About 49.9% of visits arrive direct against 30.2% from organic search, with roughly 4.0 million brand searches a month, 10.1 pages per visit and an average session of 7 minutes 42 seconds. That is the shape of a tool people open by name and then work inside. India and Brazil lead the country mix at 9.9% each, ahead of the United States at 5.9%.

What to know before you commit

  • What people rate it for. The consistent praise is workflow compression: notes or a file go in, a coherent shareable draft comes out, and nobody stares at a blank slide. Memeburn's August 2026 synthesis reports G2 at 3.9/5 and Product Hunt at 4.8/5, with reviewers citing time saved, attractive output and content organization; Techreviewer's July 2026 synthesis says usability and functionality are strong and highlights the speed of getting to a polished deck. Both are secondary summaries. Techreviewer counts 78 Product Hunt reviews, 30 on G2 and two on Capterra as of July 2026, so these are thin samples, not large aggregates.

  • The complaint pattern is output sameness and export. Reviewers report that Gamma output looks recognizably like Gamma, which limits differentiation when everyone in a category uses it, and that AI copy can read as generic or repetitive. Native charts, granular typography and advanced presentation controls lag PowerPoint. Export interoperability is the most repeated specific complaint, particularly PowerPoint round-trips, along with limited customization and occasional website display problems. Test the export path you actually depend on before you commit a workflow to it.

  • Billing and support are the trust risk. Trustpilot is the clearest negative signal in the retrieved summaries, at 1.7/5 per Memeburn, with complaints about credit consumption, export limits and inconsistent AI output. Trustpilot's own description highlights difficult use, formatting errors, broken exports, billing disputes and unresponsive support, and Techreviewer describes slow or automated support plus reports of refund failures, unexplained deactivations and continued billing. These are review-platform allegations, not verified findings against the company. The three-day refund rule introduced on December 1, 2025 is Gamma's documented policy in this area.

  • Individual workspaces default to letting Gamma train on your content. Gamma's Help Center says content in individual Free, Plus, Pro and Ultra workspaces is used to improve its AI features by default, with an opt-out in Data Control, while Team and Business content is excluded automatically and that setting is locked. An August 2026 PulseAugur report describes a Pro user finding that sensitive client material could be included unless they opted out. That's a user-reported concern, not evidence of unauthorized use, but if you upload client work on an individual plan, check Data Control first.

  • Two compliance and security items are unresolved. The pricing page says Gamma is SOC 2 Type II compliant, while a May 2025 LinkedIn analysis said an older security page described the company as pursuing attestation, and the same analysis alleged phishing campaigns abusing the gamma.app domain and pointed to naming ambiguity between Gamma Tech, Inc. and Gamma Networks, Inc. in related documents. The analysis is secondary; no primary Gamma statement confirming a breach or phishing compromise was found, and no confirmed breach, lawsuit or regulator action turned up. Gamma documents a DMCA notice-and-takedown process. That is a policy mechanism, not a record of any dispute.

  • The growth numbers are the company's own. Gamma told Upstarts Media in April 2025 that it had hundreds of thousands of paying customers, 250 million gammas created, 700,000 more a day, $50 million ARR and profitability. In November 2025 CEO Grant Lee told TechCrunch the figures were $100 million ARR and 70 million users, and in March 2026 TechCrunch reported the company approaching 100 million users, again company-provided. None of it is audited, and a third-party company record listing $8.9 million in annual revenue conflicts sharply with the ARR claims, so treat that record as an unverified database estimate too.

Leadership
Grant Lee is co-founder and CEO. He founded Gamma Tech, Inc. in late 2020 with Jon Noronha and James Fox, all three former Optimizely employees; investor and company profiles list Noronha as co-founder and CPO and Fox as co-founder and CTO, retrieved August 2026. The original idea was a card-based medium for presenting ideas instead of conventional slideware, and the company ran a remote-work virtual-office concept called The Lobby alongside it before committing to presentations and, in late 2022, pivoting hard toward generative AI at around 60,000 users. No full executive roster beyond the three founders was confirmed.
Funding
Gamma is an independent private company and no acquisition was found. It disclosed a $7 million seed in October 2021 led by Accel, with Script Capital, South Park Commons, LocalGlobe, Afore and Hustle Fund named alongside angels including Zoom CEO Eric Yuan, former LinkedIn CEO Jeff Weiner and founders of Airtable, Patreon, Segment, Honey and Optimizely. A $12 million Series A followed in May 2024, again led by Accel, with Fellows Fund and Lorimer Ventures named in a funding database. In November 2025 a $68 million Series B led by Andreessen Horowitz, with Accel and Uncork Capital participating, included a reported $20 million secondary; TechCrunch reported a $2.1 billion valuation. The reported total does not reconcile: TechCrunch put it at roughly $90 million in November 2025 while a third-party company record reports $99 million.
Scale
Headcount is reported inconsistently: about 30 in an April 2025 report, about 50 in November 2025 reporting, and 116 in a third-party company record, so read it as roughly 30 to 116 depending on source and date. Revenue and user figures are the company's own and unaudited: $50 million ARR with profitability claimed in April 2025, then $100 million ARR and 70 million users in November 2025, and a company-provided figure approaching 100 million users in March 2026. A third-party record listing $8.9 million in annual revenue contradicts those ARR claims and is itself an unverified estimate. Company data places Gamma in San Francisco; no street address, jurisdiction or public support email was confirmed.
